Aerotek are not the most well-established garden tool manufacturer but that is certain to change if they continue to produce excellent products that come with reasonable price points. They have a few excellent lawn mowers currently available that are part of their newer X2 series, each one powered by a versatile battery that is compatible with other Aerotek lawn mowers and garden tools.
The Aerotek 40V is one of the best-selling lawn mowers of the X2 series, being suitable for medium and large size lawns. It also comes with a nice range of features, a user-friendly design, and a fantastic price that offers customers good value for money.
Let’s take a closer look at the Aerotek X2 40V lawn mower to see what is has to offer:
- 40V 4Ah Battery
- 40cm Cutting Width
- 6 Cutting Heights (25mm to 75mm)
- 50L Grass Collector
- Mulching Attachment
Battery and Motor
The X2 series of lawn mowers from Aerotek utilise a newer battery than the previous X1 series to power their electric motors, with this 40cm cordless mower powered by 40V 4Ah lithium-ion battery. This provides a lengthy runtime of around 35 minutes in the right conditions, which is enough charge to mow medium and large size lawn of around 300-400m2.
A charger is included alongside the lawn mower and battery, taking around 60 minutes to fully charge. Given that some batteries take double this time to charge, this is an impressive charging time that means less time waiting around.
Of course, it is always handy to have a second battery available, as you can double your runtime and always have one fully charged on standby should the other run out of charge before you finish mowing.
A second battery is available for a decent price, and considering the already reasonable price of the mower, you may find it is a worthwhile investment that does not break the bank. Plus, having over and hour of runtime would make the mower suitable for even the largest gardens in the UK.
In any case, the motor and battery provide lots of cutting power (3600rpm), with only slight reductions in the runtime if the grass is long, dense, damp etc. The motor is also brushless, making it quieter and more durable than its brushed counterparts.
Furthermore, the 40V battery included with the mower is compatible with other Aerotek 40V garden tools including a grass trimmer, hedge trimmer, chainsaw, and other lawn mowers.
The lawn mower is equipped with a 40cm steel cutting blade, which is a suitable size for tackling medium and large size lawns. It is wide enough to mow through a large portion of the lawn in just one pass, making the most out of the 35 minute runtime by keeping your mowing time to minimum.
It always helps to have a large cutting deck on cordless mowers, as you are always working with a limited runtime. This does mean that manoeuvring in narrow gardens can be difficult, although the larger wheels and lightweight design do minimise any issues moving it around.
If you want a well-maintained lawn with lots of healthy, vibrant growth then it is important to adjust the cutting height depending on the conditions.
Sometimes the grass benefits from being left longer, such as when you are mowing it for the first time of the year, when it is best to remove small amounts over the weeks, gradually lowering the blade.
There are times when you want to keep it shorter, like during the peak growing season when you can mow several times a week to encourage vigorous regrowth.
The Aerotek 40cm lawn mower offers an excellent selection of blade heights, with six height settings ranging from 25mm and 75mm. The lower settings are great for a close cut finish and the higher settings for when you need to remove less growth, so the cutting height options cover all bases.
All of these are easily accessible through the lever on the right side of the mower deck. Just rotate the lever to get the desired height and the blade moves accordingly.
Weighing 13.4kg without the battery and just under 15kg with the battery, the lawn mower is lightweight compared to similar cordless models so easy to move around the lawn. Mowers designed for larger lawns are often heavier so more difficult to push and pull, so this lighter weight certainly helps improve usability, especially for anyone that may struggle to move heavier objects around.
The larger rear wheels also help manoeuvre the mower, making it simple to move it across all types of lawns, whether they are level or have slopes. It also moves across longer grass with ease, with nothing clogging the wheels up.
Grass Box, Mulching, and Storage
The mower comes with a massive 50L grass collector, which has ample space for grass clippings without needing to be emptied often. There is an indicator on the box too, letting you know when it is full and needs emptied, although we doubt that you will need to use it because the capacity is so large.
A mulching attachment is also included with the lawn mower, which is a welcome addition as many don’t have this or charge extra for the accessory. This comes standard and is fitted straight from the box, so be sure to change this if you don’t want to mulch, although it’s a great feature that will improve lawn health by converting old clippings into food for the lawn.
If using mulching you can remove the grass box, which folds into a compact shape to save on storage space. The rest of the mower also folds down for easier storage, with four quick release latches on the mower handles allowing you to fold the handle bars down onto the deck.
