Bosch Rotak 43 LI Ergoflex Review

Bosch Rotak 430 LI Cordless Lawnmower

Bosch remain one of the top selling lawn mower manufacturers in the UK for a simple reason – their mowers are some of the best on the market! known for their durability and innovative technology, Bosch mowers continue to set many of the trends in the lawn mower market, including various useful features on their products that most gardeners will find useful.

The Rotak 43 LI Ergoflex continues this trend, with the mower being an updated version of the best selling Rotak 430 LI. This cordless electric mower comes with two powerful batteries, a selection of cutting options, and an ergonomic design for improved usability, making it a worthwhile investment for many.

Of course, it helps to know what features are included with the mower to determine if it is the right option for your needs, so let’s take a closer look at what the Rotak 43 LI Ergoflex has to offer:

Features

  • 2 x 36V 2Ah Lithuim-Ion Batteries
  • 43cm Cutting Blade
  • 10 Cutting Heights (20mm-70mm)
  • 50L Grass Box
  • Grass Comb
  • Shreds Leaves
  • Batteries Interchange with Other 36V Bosch Garden Tools

Battery and Motor

What immediately stands about the Rotak 43 LI is that it comes with two batteries rather than one. We always recommend buying a second battery for a cordless mower, as it effectively doubles the runtime and means you can always have one battery charged and on standby should the other run out of juice before you finish the task.

These are great batteries too, with each 36V 2Ah battery providing around 35-40 minutes of runtime on a single charge. This means that you can mow larger lawns up to 600m2 using both batteries and mow medium lawns up to 300m2 with a single battery.

A charging station is included with the batteries, taking about 140 minutes to charge both batteries and 70 minutes to charge one. You can also charge both to 80% in just 60 minutes, which is useful if you do not need to mow as much that day, such as during a second weekly mow during the growing season.

Better still, these batteries are interchangeable with other 36V Bosch garden tools, so you can use them with other tools you may already have or can make savings by purchasing tools without the batteries.

The Rotak 43 LI’s motor includes an integrated Syneon chip and Powerdrive system, which are unique Bosch technology that improve the mower performance in varying conditions.

The chip allows the mower to automatically adjust the power according to the environment, helping to save power by using exactly what is needed depending for varying lawn conditions, while the drive system provides added torque for handling tougher growth.

Cutting Width

The Rotak 43 LI is fitted with a 43cm steel cutting blade, which is ideal for mowing on medium and large size lawns. By offering extra width the mower takes less time to cut the grass, removing large portions of the lawn with each pass. This helps you get more mileage from the battery, highlighting the Rotak 43 LI’s suitability for larger lawns that take longer to mow.

Made from high quality steel, the cutting blade produces a precise cut across the grass blade, leaving a uniform finish. It also comes with a unique serrated edge that makes it suitable for shredding leaves – but more on that shortly!

Cutting Heights

The more cutting heights a lawn mower offers the better – and the Rotak 43 LI offers an incredible ten cutting heights! This the most you are likely to find on the market, with the blade height being adjustable from 20mm to 70mm with multiple small increments between these.

The lower settings are great for when you want grass kept short and tidy, so if you want a well-manicured lawn you will want to use these lower settings. Higher settings are suitable for when grass needs to be left longer, like after the first mow of the season or if the grass is longer, so needs less length removed to avoid scalping.

To use these height settings you adjust the lever on the cutting deck, so it could not be easier to reposition the blade height as needed.

Usability

The Rotak 43 LI is simple to operate, with a few features making it very user-friendly. For instance, the Ergoflex handles provide complete comfort for your hands and can be adjusted to various positions to suit your height and posture.

Several power buttons are situated across the handle grips, allowing you to maintain power while manoeuvring the mower, even when turning or working at awkward angles.

Furthermore, the mower is incredibly lightweight at just 13.9kg. This is impressive for a mower suitable for larger lawns, which are often on the heavier side. Most gardeners will find it easy to push and pull the Rotak 43 LI across their lawns, even on sloped areas.

There is also a centralised carry handle on the cutting deck, making it easier to move the mower to and from the shed or garage. The handles also fold down for easier transportation and compact storage.

Grass Box, Grass Comb, and Leaf Shredding

AS mentioned, the Rotak 43 LI has a unique serrated cutting blade that allows it to gather and shred leaves as you mow. This is handy if you have trees in your garden and the fallen leaves gather on the lawn, saving the hassle of raking them up before you mow.

Any leaves and grass clippings are gathered into the 50L collector box, which should have enough capacity for all the garden waste, even on those larger lawns.

There are also grass combs integrated into the sides of the cutting deck, which gathers any loose grass along the edges of the lawn for a cleaner finish.
