Equipped with a robust electric motor, the mower may not come with all the bells and whistles but it does offer excellent performance for an equally outstanding price, which are two of the main things most buyers look for in a lawn mower.

Lets take a closer look at the GC-EM 1030 to see what it offers

Features

  • 100W Motor
  • 10m Cable
  • 30cm Cutting Width
  • 3 Cutting Heights (30mm to 70mm)
  • 25L Grass Box
  • 7.2kg

Motor and Power

The Einhell GC-EM 1030 is fitted with a robust 1000W brushless motor, offering excellent cutting power, and added durability. This motor produces a no-load speed of 3400rpms, meaning the blade rotates at incredibly high speeds for improved cutting performance. Simply put, the mower can handle that denser and damper grass common in countless UK gardens!

Designed for smaller and medium sized gardens, the mower is suitable for lawn sizes up to 300m2, making it a great choice for most UK households. Lawn sizes typically don’t get much larger than this here, so it should be suitable for most buyers unless they have an especially large lawn – think anything larger than the size of several tennis courts. If you garden is in that category then you would be best considering a good petrol mower which we cover here.

As it is a corded electric mower you need to plug a cable into mains power to operate the mower, although this comes with a decent 10m length, so it is certainly not restrictive in its movement. In fact, you can manoeuvre around medium and smaller lawns with ease – just make sure you avoid running over the cable!

Cutting Width

As with all the top electric lawn mowers, the GC-EM 1030 is fitted with a steel blade for improved performance and durability. Measuring 30cm, the blade offers a good cutting width for smaller lawns, although it may require a few extra passed when working on medium lawns closer to 300m2.

Still, the blade is premium quality so cuts effortlessly cuts through grass, even if its long, dense, or damp, so it does not take much more time and effort to finish the task on medium size lawns.

The blade is durable so won’t need sharpened often, while there are replacement blades available for an excellent price if you do not want to pay to get it sharpened or sharpen it yourself.

Cutting Height

The GC-EM 1030 comes with three cutting heights, which is fewer than many mowers but generally more than enough for your average gardener. Three settings let you leave the lawn length short, long, and somewhere in-between, which covers the basics of good lawn maintenance.

For example, the 20mm setting is good for leaving grass short, so if you like a close cut finish, like on a golf course, it is possible to achieve this with the lower setting. The higher blade positions are perfect for people that mow their lawn once every week or so, letting you achieve a nice finish without removing too much grass at once time.

Adjusting these is tricker than some mowers though, as you need to manually move the wheels rather than a lever on the central cutting deck. It is slightly more time consuming but not too much of a hassle – this makes the fewer height options less of an issue!

Usability

Weighing just 7.5kg, the GC-EM 1030 is one of the lightest mowers on the market, making it simple to operate for most users. This is especially useful for people that may struggle to move heavier objects about, as the mower is lightweight so requires virtually no effort to push and pull across the lawn. Elderly gardeners may find this particularly appealing.

Large plastic wheels further improve usability. The mower moves across lawns without much effort, even if grass is longer or denser. This is useful for people mowing less frequently, as the mower can easily move through overgrown lawns, producing a clean cut with each pass.

The throttle is situated on the right hand side of the handle, so while most users will find this easy to hold for long periods it can be challenging for some left-handed users. Moving the mower around with a full grass box can also be trickier, although nothing too strenuous.

As a corded electric mower you need to be mindful of the position of the power cord when operating the device. Thankfully, there is a clip on the handles that holds the cord closer to the user, letting you keep the cord up and out of the way of the cutting blade for safer operation.

 Grass Collector and Storage

Given that the GC-EM 1030 is an economy mower, there is little in the way of extra features and functions. This means no rear roller, mulching, or leaf shredding, with just a basic grass collector included.

The 25L capacity is suitable for most smaller lawns but may require emptying if working on lawns closer to 300m2. It’s not inconvenient by any stretch and given the lower cost of the product it is hard to find much issue.

There is an integrated carry handle in the central cutting deck for easier transportation to and from storage. The mower weighs just 7.5kg, so moving it back and forth from storage is simple. The handles also fold down onto the cutting deck, making it more compact for more efficient storage – great for anyone short on space in their shed or garage.

  • One of the best priced mowers on the market
  • Great performance for an economy model
