Gtech Cordless Lawnmower 2.0 Review

Gtech has quickly established itself as one of the leading manufacturers of wireless vacuum cleaners, producing one the top selling products in the market, eventually releasing a lawn mower that utilised the same advanced battery technology.

The original Gtech Cordless Lawn mower was a resounding success, offering one of the best batteries on the market in terms of runtime and charging. Not to rest on their laurels, the company has now released the Gtech Cordless Lawn Mower 2.0, which includes some notable improvements over the already impressive battery performance of the original.

So what exactly can you expect from the new Gtech Cordless Lawn Mower 2.0? Let’s take a closer look to find out!

Features

  • 48V 2Ah Lithium-Ion Battery
  • 42cm Cutting Width
  • 6 Cutting Heights (30mm to 80mm)
  • 50L Grass Box

Battery and Motor

The Gtech Cordless Lawn Mower 2.0 uses a 48V 2Ah lithium-ion battery to power its electric motor, offering both impressive runtimes and charging. For example, the battery offers around 40 minutes of runtime when fully charged, which is the same impressive runtime as the previous model.

While there is no increased runtime, the 40 minute charge is more than enough for most UK garden lawns. For instance, the mower has enough charge to cover an area of around 400m2, which is almost double the size of an average UK lawn.

The real area of improvement for the battery on the newer Gtech mower is charging time. The 2Ah battery fully charges in approximately one hour, which is one of the fastest on the market, especially when you consider it offers a runtime up to 40 minutes.

There are few cordless mowers that offer this combination of a long runtime and fast charge time, highlighting why the redesign is already establishing itself as one of the best in its range. Not many competitor products charge the battery this quickly while offering such a lengthy runtime!

The motor itself offers quiet operation, producing sounds below 90dB, so you will not need to worry about making too much noise if mowing earlier in the morning.

Both the battery and motor provide excellent cutting power and performance, producing the same quality cut in most conditions, so you can expect the same battery performance even if the grass is long and dense.

Cutting Width

Gtech Cordless Lawnmower 2.0 blade

As it is designed for lawns up to 400m2 it is important that the mower has a large enough cutting blade, otherwise mowing times can increase significantly. The 42cm cutting width is ideal for medium and large size lawns, removing lots of growth in just a single pass, helping to keep runtimes down so you get the most out of the 40 minute runtime.

The carbon steel blade has received a slight redesign over the original, featuring improved airflow that reduces how much grass is pushed down, resulting in a more even and uniform cut. This also means more grass is cut in a single pass, further reducing time and effort needed to mow the lawn.

Cutting Heights

With six cutting heights ranging from 30mm to 80mm, the Gtech Cordless Lawn Mower 2.0 comes with all the blade settings you need for seasonal mowing throughout the year. There are instances where it best to leave grass longer, such as the first mow of the season, in which case the higher blade settings are recommended.

When you are mowing more frequently, like when the grass is actively growing during spring and summer, then lower settings are a good option for keeping grass shorter without removing too much length at once. This ensures the lawn looks well maintained while also providing ideal growing conditions for the grass.

It is easy to access each setting, as you just move the lever on the central cutting deck to get the required blade height. Sometimes you need to use several heights on the same mow, so being able to easily switch between these heights is useful.

Usability

The Gtech Cordless Lawn Mower 2.0 is easy to operate, even if you may struggle to move heavier lawn mowers. It is small and compact, weighing just 13.5kg, so you should find it effortless to move around the lawn, even if there are slopes or uneven terrain.

Starting the mower is easy too – just insert the battery, push the power button, and then pull the handle lever. It glides across lawns with ease, producing a neat and tidy cut even on longer grass, so you should have no problems manoeuvring it around your garden.

The handles come with a soft grip padding to help reduce the impact of vibrations, further reducing fatigue during longer operation. This is a good feature as the mower can operate for around 40 minutes, so it is important to remain comfortable to avoid aches and pains developing.

While there are lighter lawn mowers, not many are suitable for larger lawn sizes like the Gtech Cordless Lawn Mower 2.0.

The 50L grass box is massive, offering enough space for all your clippings without needing to stop and empty it. We doubt you will ever need to stop mid-mow to empty it, even if mowing long and dense lawns that produce more clippings.

This grass collector is larger than the previous model, while it also comes with an indicator flap that lets you know when it needs empties – we doubt you will need to check this due to the fantastic capacity!

The cutting deck is designed so that the blade is close to the edge of the deck, making it much more efficient at cutting stray grass blades along edging and fences. Combined with the lighter weight and easy manoeuvrability, you should have no issues achieving the perfect mow along your edging, borders, beds, fences etc.

Once you are done mowing, you can fold the Gtech Cordless Lawn Mower 2.0 down into a compact size for easier storage. This also makes easy to carry to and from storage.
