Hyundai are best known for their cars and motorcycles but the company also produces a range of excellent lawn mowers that are well equipped to maintain UK lawns. While they are generally regarded for the petrol-powered mowers, Hyundai also have a selection of corded and cordless electric models, providing the same power and quality performance but without any emissions.
The HYM3800E is corded electric mower suited for small and medium size gardens in the UK. Fitted with a powerful electric motor, large cutting blade, and a range of useful attachments, our testing concluded that this product is a great buy for anyone seeking a reliable mower for their lawn maintenance.
Let’s take a closer look at the HYM3800E to see what offers:
Hyundai HYM3800E Features
- 1600W Motor

Motor and Power
The HYM3800E is equipped with a robust 1600W electric motor, making it one of the most powerful models for a mower designed for small and medium lawns.
Being a brushless motor helps increase the overall performance and durability of the motor, making it suitable for lawns where there is tougher or denser growth – which is common in many UK gardens.
For example, the motor produces an impressive 3700rpm, which our findings concluded is quicker than many petrol mowers, highlighting how good the cutting power is for a smaller electric mower.
It is recommended for lawns up to 225m2, although it certainly has enough power to work on lawns slightly larger than this, up to around 250m2. A 10m power cord offers mostly unrestricted movement, although you may need an extension cord if the lawn is further away from your property.
Also, the brushless motor design means that the motor has increased durability compared to a brushed motor – expect it to last for several years without any drop in power and performance.
The 38cm cutting blade attached to the mower is larger than many similar sized mowers, which often have smaller blades to accommodate the more compact lawns they are intended for. However, this cutting width is not a bad thing, making it even quicker to finish mowing the lawn.
When combined with the robust motor, this blade makes short work of grass of any condition, whether short, long, dense, or even damp. Being a brushless motor helps with this, producing a cleaner cut across the grass.
Smaller lawns may not require such a wide cutting blade, especially those that are narrower, as manoeuvring the mower in tighter spaces can be tricky. Thankfully, the mower is lightweight so it should not be much of an issue, although certain buyers may prefer a model with a smaller blade – the HYME3200E has a more compact 32cm blade.
It is always a good idea to choose a mower with multiple cutting heights if you want to maintain a healthy lawn throughout the year. The HYM3800E delivers in this regard, providing 5 cutting heights ranging from 20m to 70mm which is more options compare to similar electric models in this category.
These heights cover all the best blade positions you need to maintain a healthy lawn throughout the year. For example, the 20mm setting leaves a close cut, which is perfect for those weeks you are mowing frequently and want to keep a nice short lawn, like during summer.
Higher blade positions are good for situations where the grass is longer than usual so you don’t want to remove too much at one time, such as the first mow of the season after winter or when the grass has been too wet to mow for a few weeks.
Adjusting the blade position is easy, with a lever on the central cutting deck moving it to the required height.
Despite its power the HYM3800E is surprisingly lightweight, mainly thanks to the plastic chassis, with the mower weighing just 12.5kg. This makes it easy to operate across the lawn, including on uneven surfaces, so if you have a sloped lawn it will not require much effort to move. when we tested this model, we found it extremely easy to operate.
The mower can be used for long periods without feeling too heavy or cumbersome, which is essential for avoiding fatigue and pains. The 10m cord is lengthy and should not restrict movement, unless your lawn is a longer distance from your property, in which case you can just use a power extension.
The handles are adjusted to various heights, allowing you to get the right position for comfortable operation. These also fold down onto the deck for compact storage, meaning you do not need to worry about it taking up too much space in the shed or garage.
Being an electric motor means that there is no engine maintenance required, with the occasional blade sharpening being the most that is needed. This is impressive given it has cutting power similar to a petrol device.
Some minor assembly is required out of the box, although this won’t take too long as it only requires a few pieces to be connected together.
Roller, Mulcher, and Grass Collector
The HYM3800E comes with both a rear roller and mulcher function, allowing you to maintain a healthy lawn with an attractive striped finish. The mulching plug makes the mower further shred grass clippings it gathers, redistributing these back onto the lawn to serve as feed – the clippings break down into the soil to provide an added nutritional boost as you mow.
If you do not want to mulch the clippings the mower can gather than into a 40L grass collector for disposal. This is a large collector that will unlikely need emptied until you are finished mowing, although there is an indicator on the compartment that shows how full it is in any case.
We recommend using the mulching function as this saves the hassle of ever needing to empty clippings again!
